Srinagar, Oct 16: A rare surgery was performed on 32 year old patient belonging to Nasipora, Budgam admitted under MRD No. 75395 in the Department of Surgical Oncology at Sher-I-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences, Srinagar. This patient presented with h/o progressive abdominal distention with weight loss. CT Scan showed a large mass occupying whole abdomin/pelvice.
Surgery was conducted by a team of 10 doctors under Dr. Altaf Gowhar Haji who is the Consultant Surgical Oncology. The tumour was completely removed enbloc and weighed almost 23 Kgs. This tumour was arising from left ovary and was adherent to large bowel and left side of diaphragm.
The other members of the team consisit of Dr. Rabia Khurshid (Gynae), Dr. Waqara (Anesthesia), Dr. Aamir Alam Khan ( Sr.Resident Surg. Oncology), Dr. Arshid Iqbal Qadri (Sr. Resident Surg. Oncology), Dr. Khalid Bashir (Sr. Resident Surgical Oncology), Dr. Nighat Nabi (Jr. Resident), Dr. Sumaiya PG, Dr. Iqtibas (PG), Sister Tabinda.
Director SKIMS & EOSG Prof. Showkat Ali Zargar congratulated the whole team for undertaking this very difficult surgery successfully. It may be mentioned here that more than 210 complex cancer surgeries have been performed in the department of Surgical Oncology for the last one year.
