Srinagar – The Minister for Health, Sham Lal Sharma in the Legislative Council today said that the Drug and Food Control Organization has taken several initiatives to curb the menace of drug abuse however, he said, the organization has not conducted any survey to establish the exact number of youth involved in drug abuse.
During an half an hour discussion raised by Mr. Khalid Najeeb Suharwardy, the Minister said that The Drugs and Cosmetics Act has been enacted in the state to control manufacture and sale of drugs in the country. He said the inspectorate staff posted at Tehsil headquarters are keeping a close and constant vigil over the movement of pharmaceutical preparations and taking cognizance of any breach of act, committed at various levels of supply chain.
He said that the new brands of drugs identified by the field staff are kept under surveillance to monitor their usage. Any significant increase in their conception levels is investigated and pilferages noticed, if any are dealt as per the mandate of law. He said coordinated approach between excise, police and officers of the drug organization at the entry point of the state Lakhanpore has reduced illegal import of such drugs into the state.
