Srinagar – Farmers in Jammu and Kashmir cheered a bumper paddy produce due to conducive weather conditions.
The farmers said the favourable climate has brightened the bumper crop this year.
“This year I think that the produce of paddy is much better than last year. We have been praying the god for a bumper produce because last year’s paddy produce was not very high. After the harvest, the paddy is consumed for one and a half years. But by god’s grace, this year’s produce will be consumed for two and half years,” said Shahid Ali.
The harvesting season of paddy starts from the end of September in Kashmir every year.
Meanwhile, Joint Director, agriculture Department, Srinagar, Khurshid Ahmad Kasba said that the agriculture department is replacing the old seeds with new and improved quality of seeds.
“We replaced the old seeds of the paddy crops with an improved quality, which led to a bumper production this year. The second reason is that this year the climatic conditions were very good this year. Summer lasted long and there was apt amount of rainfall and there were no crop diseases. Therefore, the farmers had a high yield,” he said.
The sowing of paddy starts before the arrival of the monsoons in June-July.
Most of the traditional crops are photosensitive and thus the sowing time is the most important variable in determining the yield. (Agencies)
