Gangster escapes police custody in Jammu

Jammu | Notorious gangster, who was arrested in connection with a rape case, managed to escape from the custody at Domana Police Station on city outskirts of this winter capital.

“Taking an advantage of power failure, rape accused Vipan Gupta alias ‘Bhoot’ escaped from police custody,” police sources here today said.

They said that the gangster was arrested along with his accomplice Bikramjit Singh on a complaint lodged by a girl that they raped her in Udeywala area.

A senior police officer said policemen Munshi Mohamamd Altaf and sentry Gurvinder Singh have been placed under suspension for dereliction of duties and investigations are in progress.

“A case has been registered and inquiries initiated while manhunt is on to apprehend the absconder,” they added. ‘Bhoot’ is wanted in manycriminal cases like extortion, murder and thefts.
