SSM Says, Event Apolitical, Only Boys to Dance

Srinagar – A day after, chairmain Hurriyat (G), Syed Ali Shah Geelani accused Valley’s premiere SSM College of Engineering of helping army in its ‘cultural aggression programme’, the college authorities Monday took on the octogenerain leader, saying that his claims were baseless and only boys would participate in song and dance event’.

An official of SSM college refuted Geelani’s claims that an inter-state two day event “Santoor” was being organised with the help of army saying: “The event is purely non political and army has nothing to do with it.”

The college official said “The claims of resistance leader were baseless. The event is organized by college and its students and the charity raised through the event will be given to a mental asylum and leprosy patients.”

Geelani had called for boycott of the ‘song and dance programme’ that began today.

The official said: “Some boys had gone to nearby forces camp and they brought some chairs, but when we came to know about it we asked them to return them back to forces.”

“Some people are jealous of college’s performance and that is why they are indulging in this type of propaganda,” added the official.

While refuting the claims of spreading vulgarity, he said “Only boys are participating in the programs of dancing, modeling and singing. The girls will only announce the name of participants on stage.”

On Sunday Hurriyat Conference (G) Geelani had alleged “the event was being organized with the help of Army”. It had also appealed the students of SSM College to boycott the event.
